Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
A traditional multi-vineyard Barolo assembled from five sites in the municipality of Verduno: Pisapola, Campasso, Riva Rocca, Boscatto and Rocche dell’Olmo. Together they cover approximately 4 hectares. Pisapola lies at 280–350 m with southeast exposure; Campasso at 250–350 m facing east; Riva Rocca at 270–340 m facing southeast; Boscatto at 250–370 m facing east; and Rocche dell’Olmo at 310–360 m facing east. The soils are calcareous slimy limestone. The Guyot-trained vines average about 25 years of age and are planted at 4,500 vines per hectare.
Grapes
Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in October. Fermentation and maceration take place in tanks for 25–30 days at a constant 26–28 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately three years in 20–40 hl Slavonian and French oak casks, then spends two months in stainless steel. It is bottled at the beginning of the fourth year after harvest and receives at least six months in horizontally stored bottles.
Tasting profile
The defining character is a spicy elegance associated with the wines of Verduno.
Label / history
The wine follows the traditional practice of blending fruit from several vineyards. Fratelli Alessandria’s Barolo production dates to 1860; the first Barolo released under the Barolo del Comune di Verduno name was the 2017 vintage. Its stated longevity is 7–14 years.
