Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from two vineyards in Verduno: east-facing Boscatto at 250–370 m and west-facing Sotto orti at 270–310 m. The parcels cover approximately 0.3 hectares in total and have limestone-and-silt soils. The vines average around 35 years of age, are Guyot-trained and are planted at 4,500 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Favorita, a native Piedmontese variety closely related to Vermentino.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the second half of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks for 20–25 days at a constant 18–20 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for 3–4 months in stainless-steel tanks and 1–2 months in bottle. Bottling takes place in March or April following the harvest.
Tasting profile
Crisp and savory, with floral and fruit aromas and a distinct mineral vein.
Label / history
The variety’s name derives from its reputation as the favorite grape of the Queen of Savoy. The wine was first produced in 1986.
