Vineyard and terroir
Arcosesto represents the traditional expression of the estate's Orvieto Classico DOC. Its fruit comes from old, mixed-planted parcels on the Rocca Ripesena hill near Orvieto, established around 1981–1982. The vineyards stand at 300 m on predominantly volcanic, sedimentary and clay-rich soil. Volcanic rock beneath the clay and the absence of irrigation encourage deep rooting. The estate cultivates organically and harvests its fruit by hand.
Grapes
Grechetto, Procanico (Trebbiano Toscano) and Malvasia. A broader account of the traditional field blend describes more than 60% Grechetto with approximately 40% local varieties collectively comprising Trebbiano, Malvasia, Drupeggio, Verdello and Cannaiolo Bianco; exact current percentages are not given.
Ageing
Two months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Pale straw yellow with light green reflections. Delicate and pleasant aromas evoke fresh fruit and white flowers. The palate is fresh, fragrant and delicate yet persistent, with pronounced acidity and minerality.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12°C. Suitable as an aperitif and with delicate starters, fish and white meat.
Label / history
The name refers to the round arch, a recurring structural element of Orvieto Cathedral. It appears above the twelve façade aedicules containing the apostles and inside the cathedral, where round arches define the six bays of the central nave.
