Storia

Origins

The first record of the Bibbiano estate dates back to 1089, when the land — including Bibbiano Castle, a church and vineyards — was granted to Giovanni di Benzo. Over the following centuries the estate passed through many hands, including wealthy nobles, a Florentine hospital, landowners and princes.

The Marzi Family Takes Over

In 1865 the estate was purchased by brothers Casimiro and Pietro Marzi, ancestors of the current owners. Casimiro, Pietro and Pietro's son Antonio planned to expand the property and build a new estate house. Their work progressed well until World War II changed everything.

World War II and Renovation

From the summer of 1944, a military unit was stationed on the estate, causing significant damage. Only in 1950 did Pier Tommaso Marzi, together with his son-in-law Alfredo Marrocchesi and the oenologist Giulio Gambelli, begin a complete renovation of Bibbiano. This included building a new cellar, modernising the winery's equipment, and planting 20 ha of vineyards and 10 ha of olive trees.

Today

Bibbiano is now managed by brothers Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate. Agronomist and oenologist Stefano Porcinai oversees winemaking. In addition to wine, the estate produces olive oil and offers agritourism stays.
