Vineyard and terroir
Most of the fruit comes from the Ronco di San Giorgio vineyards in Brazzano. The vines grow on a very steep, southwest-facing hillside with grey-brown marl soils. Sheltered from cold northeasterly winds, the site has warm temperatures and good sunlight, enabling the red grapes to reach full polyphenolic ripeness.
Grapes
A Bordeaux-style blend composed mainly of Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
Vinification takes place in 12-hectolitre wooden vats filled halfway. A short cold maceration is followed by fermentation and several weeks of post-fermentation maceration; its precise duration varies according to the quality of the vintage.
Ageing
The wine matures for around 36 months, mainly in small French oak barrels.
