Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are located in Colonnella, Ancarano, Controguerra and Roseto degli Abruzzi on the Adriatic coast. They face east and south-east, with Guyot-trained vines rooted in medium-textured limestone- and clay-based soils.
Grapes
Montepulciano.
Vinification
Ten percent of the must is drawn off to increase concentration. Fermentation uses Fantini Selection yeasts and begins at a low temperature to encourage polyphenol extraction; the temperature is then controlled at 27°C. Malolactic fermentation follows.
Ageing
Approximately six months in American-oak barriques.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. Intense and persistent, with ripe red fruit, amaretto, marzipan and spice. The palate is dry and warm, framed by elegant tannins.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18°C. Pair with slow-cooked rack of lamb, pappardelle with pork ragù, roasts or filet mignon.
