Storia
1969
CVA Canicattì Società Cooperativa Agricola was founded in 1969 as a result of the Sicilian farmers' movement. From the beginning, the project was supported by many local farmers who firmly believed in the cultural value of grape growing and wine.
Mid-2000s onward
Since the mid-2000s, the cooperative's production philosophy has focused on winemaking excellence. Investment in technology and organization across every area of production has allowed CVA Canicattì to set new, higher standards for winemaking quality. From vineyard management to marketing strategy, the aim has been to appeal to discerning customers with wines that meet high winemaking standards and offer value for money.
Terroir
The vineyards cover a vast area stretching from the province of Agrigento to Palermo and Caltanissetta. In this far-flung part of Sicily, soil and climate conditions can change greatly within just a few kilometers. Winegrowing has developed under challenging conditions, shaped by a constant shortage of water. Varied microclimates and soil compositions across the area contribute sensory quality to the grapes, reflecting the biodiversity of the terroir.
Vinificazione
Grape varieties well suited to the area include the traditional local grapes Nero d'Avola, Grillo, and Catarratto. Each grower is supported by the cooperative's technical team, which monitors vine development and offers guidance on producing healthy grapes with strong sensory qualities. Vineyards are family-run under a shared set of production guidelines.
In the cellar, aging follows a detailed schedule designed around the ideal maturation time for each variety. All wines are made in small batches, with the aim of creating wines with distinctive aromas and flavors appreciated around the world for their character and sense of place.
Filosofia
The cooperative describes its aim as appealing to the most discerning customers with wines that meet high winemaking standards and offer excellent value for money. It regards the diversity of microclimates and soils in its growing area as an invaluable resource, giving its wines complexity and richness of aroma and flavor while reflecting the biodiversity of its terroir. It describes itself as a genuine partnership between almost 300 independent winegrowers, who form the backbone of the cooperative.
