Vineyard and terroir
Nero d’Avola is grown at 350 m above sea level around Sambuca di Sicilia in the province of Agrigento. The vines stand on fresh soils with limestone and clay. Nearby Lake Arancio helps them obtain water and nutrients during severe drought, supporting fresh fruit aromas and balanced acidity.
Grapes
Nero d’Avola.
Vinification
The grapes are lightly pressed to limit the extraction of green tannins. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature with 10–12 days of skin contact at 22–24 °C. The cap is managed through three daily pump-overs and one délestage.
Ageing
Matured in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Deep, brilliant red with purple highlights. The aromatic profile combines spice—particularly liquorice and clove—with prune, cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18 °C. Pair with first courses, barbecued or roasted meat, game birds and seasoned cheeses.
Awards
Gold Medal at the 2022 Frankfurt International Trophy.
