Vineyard and terroir
Fruit from several vineyards in the Barbaresco area is combined to balance their often contrasting expressions of terroir.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, transported carefully to the winery and pressed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with 15–20 days of maceration.
Ageing
The wine spends 12 months in 300-litre French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, followed by 12 months in smaller barrels and a further year in bottle in the winery’s cellars. It reaches full maturity 6–10 years after bottling in any vintage and 15–20 years after bottling in an excellent vintage.
Tasting profile
The wine balances structure and elegance, with an inviting expression of the Barbaresco terroir.
Label / history
Earlier vintages were released as Barbaresco Asij. The label was later simplified to Barbaresco as a tribute to the long-standing importance of Barolo and Barbaresco in the Ceretto family’s winemaking.
Riccardo Ceretto began making wine after moving to Alba in the 1930s. His sons Bruno and Marcello continued his work from the 1960s and devoted their lives to promoting Barolo, becoming known as the Barolo Brothers. The third generation now carries on the family tradition. Ceretto owns nine estates, with more than 80 hectares of vineyards and total production of approximately 700,000 bottles.
