Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the 0.25-hectare San Lorenzo plot in the Cannubi vineyard, situated on a hillside at 290–320 m above sea level. The site has marl soils containing seashell fragments, and its vines average 80 years of age.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand. The must ferments with natural yeasts for seven days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24–30 months in large oak barrels.

Tasting profile

Complex and elegant.

Label / history

The oldest known bottle from the Langhe bears “Cannubi 1751” on its label. Inspired by this bottle, the Ceretto family sought a holding in Cannubi and in 2002 acquired 3,000 m² at the top of the hill, planted with 80-year-old Nebbiolo vines. The wine is released only in the best vintages, with 60 bottles allocated to Russia.

The Ceretto family began making wine in the 1930s, after Riccardo Ceretto moved to Alba. His sons Bruno and Marcello continued his work in the 1960s with a new philosophy shaped by the changing times. Their lifelong promotion of Barolo earned them the nickname “Barolo Brothers.” The third generation now continues the family’s work. The family owns nine estates, with more than 80 hectares of vineyards and annual production of approximately 700,000 bottles.
