Vineyard and terroir
The Colli Berici are a chain of ancient volcanic formations between Verona and Padua. The climate is very mild and sunny, similar to the Mediterranean, and vines have been grown here for thousands of years. The grapes are grown within the area of the Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici, which brings together around 4,000 ha of vineyards.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. At the winery they undergo a short skin maceration to extract the wine's pink colour, then ferment in steel tanks under strict temperature control.
Serving and pairing
Chill to 8–10 °C so that the aromatic character shows at its best.
Label / history
Cielo e Terra was founded in 1908. Its name joins terra, Italian for "earth", with Cielo, the surname of the founding family. Under Pietro Cielo the company began expanding and improving production in 1930; new vineyards were planted and output rose in 1962. The winery is now run by the fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo. It owns around 300 ha in the Veneto and belongs to the Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici, where most of its wines are produced. With the group's winemakers, it takes part in a project to improve every stage of winegrowing and production in the Berici Hills, from vineyard to bottle.
