Technical data
Colli Berici DOC. Alcohol: 12.5% by volume. Presented in a 750 ml Bordeaux bottle. Serve at 12–14°C. Ageing potential is 1–3 years.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red. The bouquet is inviting, with a restrained varietal herbal note and abundant aromas of red fruit, wild flowers and spices; rose, woodland berries and cinnamon are particularly evident. Rounded, full and juicy on the palate, it combines a silky, velvety texture with savoury, almost maritime accents. Tannins and freshness support a cohesive, structured body, leading to a fresh, mineral finish.
Serving and pairing
Pair with flavourful pasta in red sauces, cured meats, medium-aged cheeses, grilled or pan-cooked meats, filled pasta, ragù and soups. Its savoury character also suits sauced dishes featuring tuna, swordfish or cod. More specific suggestions include polenta with strolghino, bruschetta with peperoni cruschi and pecorino, Sicilian-style swordfish, stewed salt cod, tortellini Bolognese and mixed grills.
Label / history
Casa Defrà means “House of the Cielo Brothers” and recalls the family’s original farmhouse at the foot of the Colli Vicentini. The family settled there and planted its first vineyard in 1908; the wines are made from grapes grown around Vicenza by generations of local winegrowers.
