Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The 5.5-hectare Il Poggio vineyard lies at 280–320 metres above sea level. It is planted with old vines and has a range of exposures.
Grapes
Sangiovese is supplemented by small amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino.
Vinification
Produced only in the best years, the wine ferments in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for 20 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle.
Label / history
Il Poggio has been produced since 1962 and takes its name from the vineyard. The cellar retains selected bottles from every vintage, forming an archive of Castello di Monsanto’s history.
