Storia
Founding
Luigi Dorigati, a building inspector, founded Fratelli Dorigati in 1858. At the time it was a small family business with a single wine cellar.
Growth and continuity
The company has since grown into a modern, fully integrated business and is today run by the fifth generation of the Dorigati family. The current owner holds that the best innovation in winemaking is a commitment to tradition.
1990 – Memorandum of Intent
Since 1990 the winery has taken part in Trento's winemaking program known as the "Memorandum of Intent," a certified set of rules setting out an integrated approach to vineyard protection.
Terroir
The winery is associated with Trento, where it takes part in a local winemaking program addressing vineyard protection.
Vinificazione
Vineyard work follows Trento's "Memorandum of Intent," adopted by the winery in 1990, which sets out an integrated approach to vineyard protection. The program specifies plant-protection treatments that control grape moths and a vine-feeding beetle without insecticides, and it imposes sulfur dioxide limits in finished wine stricter than those required by law. Care extends to the choice of vine seedlings for the vineyard as part of an ongoing search for balance between soil and plant.
The company describes a search for balance at every stage of winemaking, from selecting vine seedlings for the vineyard to controlling temperature and humidity in the winery's cellars. Winemaking is framed as a relationship between the winemaker and the land, close to an art form.
Filosofia
The current owner believes that the best innovation in winemaking is a commitment to tradition. The company holds that careful stewardship of the land and vineyards is at the heart of its philosophy, and that wine quality begins in the vineyard. It describes living close to nature as respecting its rhythms and harmony, and looks for balance at every stage of winemaking — from choosing vine seedlings to finding the right temperature and humidity in the cellars — in an ongoing search for harmony between soil and plant, and between people and wine. For the company, wine is more than a drink or the result of fermenting crushed grapes; it comes from the relationship between the winemaker and the land, bringing winemaking close to an art form, with every bottle carrying behind it thousands of years of history, experience, work, and development.
