Storia
2009
After earning a degree in agriculture and spending five years working in the cellar of his father-in-law, Michele Satta, Fabio Motta set out on his own. He began with Le Pievi, a 4-hectare vineyard of twenty-year-old vines at the foot of the Castagneto Carducci hill.
Soon afterward
Motta acquired another vineyard of more than two hectares in the Le Fornaselle area, planted with white grape varieties, especially Vermentino.
2012
Fabio Motta bought the Le Gonnare vineyard.
Today
Fabio Motta owns around 7 hectares, an estate small enough for him to personally oversee every step of growing the grapes and making the wine.
Terroir
Le Pievi lies at the foot of the Castagneto Carducci hill. The estate is situated in Bolgheri.
Vinificazione
Fabio Motta farms his vineyards organically. He chose organic farming as what he considers the most transparent way to capture Bolgheri and his soils in the bottle, holding that organic grapes are, above all, better in quality than conventionally grown grapes.
Fabio Motta personally oversees every step of growing the grapes and making the wine, an approach made possible by the small size of the estate (around 7 hectares).
