Vineyard and terroir

The production area encompasses Colonnella, Ancarano, Controguerra and Roseto in Abruzzo. The vineyards around Roseto degli Abruzzi lie on the Adriatic coast, with south-eastern exposure and mixed clay-limestone soils. The vines are trained using both Guyot and Pergola systems.

Grapes

100% Montepulciano.

Vinification

Ten percent of the must is drawn off to increase concentration. Fermentation uses Fantini Selection yeasts. A low temperature during the opening phase encourages polyphenol extraction; the temperature is subsequently controlled at 27°C. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

Approximately six months in American-oak barriques.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The intense, persistent nose combines ripe red fruit with amaretto, marzipan and spice. The palate is dry and warm, framed by elegant tannins.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18°C with slow-cooked rack of lamb, pappardelle with pork ragù, roasts or filet mignon.
