Storia
Societa Agricola Fay was founded in 1973 by Sandro Fay, who built it from a small family farm. To increase wine production, he first renovated all the farm buildings in San Giacomo di Teglio and later bought several plots of land.
His children, Marco and Elena, have been actively involved in the family business since 1998.
Terroir
The vineyards lie in the Valtellina region, on terraces along the mountainside. The estate is in Valgella, one of the 5 zones of Valtellina Superiore DOCG, which covers 137 hectares. The name Valgella comes from "valgel", meaning a small river, and a network of these waterways runs through the area.
The soils are mainly sandy (70%), with small amounts of silt. There is no clay or limestone. A layer containing granite gives the soil what the estate regards as an ideal level of acidity.
Vinificazione
The family studies the soil of each plot and gives every vineyard individual attention. Vines grow on terraces along the mountainside.
Most of the estate's wines are made in Valgella. The family follows traditional winemaking principles.
Filosofia
The family studies the soil of each plot and gives every vineyard individual attention, following traditional winemaking principles. It holds that this approach produces wines with a clear identity and character.
