Vineyard and terroir
The Frappato comes from selected grapes grown in Niscemi (CL), in southeastern Sicily. The vineyards lie at 100 m a.s.l. on soils described both as loose and as medium-textured with a sandy tendency. Vines are trained to spurred cordon at 6,000 plants per hectare, with a yield of 60 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
100% Frappato.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the first week of October. Vinification is in steel, using temperature-controlled steel fermentation tanks. Malolactic fermentation is completed.
Ageing
Eight months in first- and second-use barriques, followed by six months in bottle.
Technical data
The classification appears as both Sicilia DOC Superiore and Sicilia DOC. Available in 0.75 L bottles. First vintage: 2023. The style is a structured red with good longevity.
Tasting profile
Ruby red, with a fresh bouquet of ripe red fruit and balsamic nuances. The palate is rounded and animated by lively acidity, combining finesse with persistence and elegance.
Serving and pairing
Pairs with fresh cheeses and cured meats, as well as richly flavoured fish dishes.
Label / history
The I Putti del Serpotta line is dedicated to Giacomo Serpotta, the renowned Sicilian sculptor who lived between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and the cherubs characteristic of his work.
