Vineyard and terroir
Selected Grillo grapes come from vineyards in Niscemi (CL), at 100 m a.s.l. The loose soils are planted at 6,000 vines per hectare, trained to spurred cordon. Published yields are 55 and 60 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
100% Grillo.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in mid-September. The wine is vinified in steel, with fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is completed.
Ageing
Four months in first- and second-use barriques, followed by six months in bottle.
Technical data
Sicilia DOC Superiore. Available in 0.75 L bottles. First vintage: 2023. The style is a fresh white with good structure.
Tasting profile
Golden yellow. The aroma centres on the apple and pear notes typical of the variety. The palate is fruity, fresh and persistent, with pleasant acidity that supports good longevity.
Serving and pairing
Ideal with fish-based first and main courses, particularly tuna or swordfish, and with medium-aged cheeses.
Label / history
The I Putti del Serpotta line is dedicated to Giacomo Serpotta, the great Sicilian sculptor who lived between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and to his distinctive cherub figures.
