Vineyard and terroir

Feudo is an Etna Rosso D.O.C. from the Feudo cru in Randazzo. It is selected from 2 ha of approximately 70-year-old vines at 650 m above sea level on Etna's northern slopes. The volcanic, sandy soil is rich in minerals. Planting density is 5,500 vines per hectare, with vines trained as alberello and modified alberello on trellises. Yield is 30 q/ha, and the grapes are organically grown.

Grapes

94% Nerello Mascalese and 6% Nerello Cappuccio.

Vinification

The grapes are picked manually in the second week of October. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously with yeasts naturally present on the grapes at 28–30°C. Skin maceration lasts 15 days, while malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously in spring.

Ageing

The wine matures for 18 months in second-use 2,600 L oak casks, followed by at least six months in bottle.

Technical data

Etna Rosso D.O.C. Alcohol: 14.5%. Production: 4,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The highly complex bouquet combines blackberry, redcurrant and sour cherry with Mediterranean herbs, balsamic nuances, leather and tobacco. The palate is broad and notably elegant, supported by an acidic line that makes it fresh and vibrant. It has excellent structure and a notably persistent finish.
