Storia
Grifalco was founded in 2004 by Cecilia and Fabrizio Piccin. Before establishing the estate, the couple had gained 20 years of winemaking experience in Tuscany. They then moved to Basilicata together with their sons, Lorenzo and Andrea, in order to focus on wines made from the native Aglianico del Vulture grape.
Today the company is run by Lorenzo and Andrea Piccin. Lorenzo, who studied viticulture and oenology in Alba, oversees all production, while Andrea handles promotion, the company's image, press relations and support for international importers.
Terroir
The estate's vineyards are located in the municipalities of Maschito, Forenza, Ginestra and Venosa, in Basilicata, where the cellar is also based.
Vinificazione
The estate's 16 hectares of vineyards are organically certified, with vine ages ranging from 10 to 80 years.
The cellar is based in Venosa. Grifalco currently specializes in five wines: "Gricos," "Grifalco," "Damaschito," "Daginestra" and "Fra." These wines have earned a loyal following and recognition, including repeated high scores from well-known wine critics.
