La Ganghija

Storia

La Ganghija was founded in 2004 by the young winemaker Enzo Rapalino, driven by his passion for wine and his belief that it is the finest expression of the land where he grew up.

While studying at the Alba School of Enology, Enzo decided to make wine exclusively from grapes grown in the family's own vineyards. Learning winemaking techniques alongside working in the vineyards showed him the potential of the fruit and encouraged him to create wines of quality and character.

Winemaking is a relatively recent chapter for the family: the Rapalinos have been growing grapes for several generations, but only began producing wine themselves with the founding of La Ganghija. Today the family owns 22 hectares of vineyards across the municipalities of Treiso, Magliano Alfieri and Alba, and remains a family business, with Enzo working alongside his wife Milena, his parents and his brother.

Enzo Rapalino combined his studies at the Alba School of Enology with work in the family's vineyards, which showed him the potential of the fruit grown there. Grapes for the dessert wine are harvested at the end of November.

Enzo makes Barbaresco, the region's second most popular wine, from Nebbiolo. Alongside this leading wine, he gives equal respect to other local varieties, including Dolcetto and Barbera. He also produces a dessert wine from grapes harvested at the end of November, and a white wine made from Chardonnay, a variety that feels as much at home in Piedmont as it does in Burgundy.

Filosofia

Enzo Rapalino holds that wine is the finest expression of the land where he grew up. Learning winemaking techniques while working in the vineyards showed him the potential of the fruit and encouraged him to create wines of quality and character. While Barbaresco is the leading wine, he gives equal respect to other local varieties such as Dolcetto and Barbera.
