Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Poggio Abate is selected from the finest grapes of La Poderina’s historic vineyards at Castelnuovo dell’Abate in Montalcino. It is made only in the best vintages.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese Grosso.
Vinification
The grapes are picked exclusively by hand. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 24–28°C, accompanied by daily pumping over and délestage. After alcoholic fermentation, post-fermentation maceration continues at 29°C.
Ageing
Following racking, the wine is transferred to French-oak barrels and receives weekly bâtonnage for five months. It then continues ageing for a further 19 months. The complete maturation before market release totals six years.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red. The bouquet combines black cherry and red berries with balanced vanilla and tobacco nuances, showing good aromatic complexity.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C in large glasses. Pair with roasted red meats, stews, roast game and aged cheeses.
Label / history
The wine pays tribute both to the Brunello denomination and to Montalcino’s artistic and architectural heritage. Its name refers to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, which stands directly opposite the estate and its vineyards.
