Vineyard and terroir
Fusco comes from selected Merlot grown in a high-hill vineyard on marly soil of Eocene origin. Planting density is 3,500 vines per hectare, trained to unilateral Guyot.
Grapes
Merlot, selected from the vineyard’s best fruit and produced in limited quantities.
Vinification
The grapes are picked at proper maturity, with part of the crop dried for about eight weeks to build structure, breadth and fruit character. The berries are destemmed but left uncrushed, then fermented in stainless-steel tanks. Maceration lasts approximately 25 days before the wine is drawn off and transferred to barriques.
Ageing
Maturation in barriques lasts about 36 months. Further ageing follows bottling, allowing the wine to develop additional maturity and balance.
Technical data
Merlot DOC Friuli Colli Orientali. Alcohol: 14.5% vol. Fusco is also available in 1.5 L and 3 L formats.
Tasting profile
Ruby red with garnet reflections. The layered, clean and elegant bouquet combines characteristic herbaceous notes with intense aromas of small red berries. Warm and supple on the palate, it has balanced structure, measured tannins and an enveloping, persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C with richly flavoured red meat or savoury first courses.
