Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vines are over 30 years old and grow at 200 metres above sea level near Mezzane di Sotto, within the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG production area. Yield is 25 hL per hectare.
Grapes
The blend is 70% selected Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, and 10% Oseleta and other varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, with careful selection so that only berries at the required level of ripeness are used. They are dried for 100–120 days in small 5–6 kg crates in climate-controlled rooms. Gentle pressing takes place in mid-January. After cold maceration, fermentation runs at a controlled 18–25 °C for 10–15 days, with frequent pump-overs.
Ageing
The wine spends 24 months in French oak barrels of 225–500 litres, then a further 48 months in large 50 hL oak casks, and finally 12 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
A mature, rich and very appealing red wine.
Label / history
Made in limited quantities and only in the best years, when the harvest reaches exceptional quality. The first release was in 2008, with 1997 bottles produced.
