Storia
Monte delle Vigne was founded by Dr Andrea Ferrari in 1983. The estate originally covered 15 ha, of which 7 ha were vineyards spread across the hills of Parma.
The name reflects a long connection with local tradition. It comes from the thirteenth-century Franciscan monk Salimbene of Parma, who described the hills around his city as "monti de le vigne", or "mountains of vineyards".
The estate now owns 60 ha of vineyards on the hills of Parma. The nearby Taro River and Carrega woods, together with steady ventilation and favourable exposure, encouraged the owners to move towards organic vine growing.
In 2006 the estate opened a new winery, designed to combine architectural appeal with practical production needs.
Terroir
The vineyards lie on the gentle hills of Parma, about 300 m above sea level, in a microclimate the estate considers well suited to vines. The nearby Taro River and Carrega woods, steady ventilation and favourable exposure shape the site.
Vinificazione
The vines are grown organically. The owners moved in this direction because of the nearby Taro River and Carrega woods, the steady ventilation and the favourable exposure.
A new winery opened in 2006, designed to combine architectural appeal with practical production needs. The estate makes traditional sparkling wines from Lambrusco and Malvasia, and full-bodied, structured still wines. Each has a clean profile and its own character.
Filosofia
The estate presents its wines as having a clean profile and their own character, reflecting a distinctive region known around the world for its food and wines. It describes its name as expressing a long connection with local tradition.
