1898: the first wine shop
In 1898 Francesco Nicosia, great-grandfather of the current owner, opened his first wine shop in Trecastagni, on the eastern slope of Mount Etna. Etna wines were then already known and appreciated across Europe for their minerality and volcanic character.
End of the 20th century: expansion
At the end of the 20th century Nicosia invested significantly in expanding and restructuring its vineyards and in building a modern winery. These investments helped turn the family business into one of the leading names in the revival of Sicilian wine in Italy and around the world.
Terroir
The winery began in Trecastagni, on the eastern slope of Mount Etna. Etna wines have been noted for their minerality and volcanic character.
Vinificazione
Nicosia expanded and restructured its vineyards at the end of the 20th century. The winery selects local and international grape varieties suited to Sicily and pays close attention to the grapes.
