2023 — Creation of Oria Toscana
Roberto Cipresso launched Oria Toscana in October 2023. Conceived for the Val d’Orcia, the project centres on the creation of a “vineyard-garden”: a viticultural landscape designed to bring tradition and innovation together while respecting and enhancing its setting.
Development of the vineyard project
The project encompasses 15 hectares of vines and a collection of 140 Sangiovese clones. By 2026, the estate comprised a historic vineyard and a new clonal vineyard. The first harvest from the developing project is planned for 2028.
Oria Toscana also incorporates hospitality and cultural elements. The plans include 14 suites, while the estate maintains a traditional acetaia for Oria balsamic vinegar. A membership structure supports the project and is managed through MyOria, a dedicated platform for Oria members.
2026 — Oria Day and MyOria
Oria Day was announced for 5 September 2026 as a day devoted to grape ripeness, viticulture and Tuscan traditions. The programme paired a technical masterclass and presentation of Monastero 2024 with an evening at the estate. Activities at the Tenuta di Oria were to include walks through the historic and new clonal vineyards, a demonstration of grafting onto American rootstock, traditional food preparation, dinner, music and a tasting of Oria balsamic vinegar in the acetaia.
The programme also scheduled the official activation of MyOria, presented by Martín Iglesias, for 5 September 2026.
Terroir
Oria Toscana lies in the UNESCO-listed Val d’Orcia in Tuscany. Access to the estate is indicated from San Quirico. The landscape opens toward Montalcino, with sunset views and sightlines that include the cypress trees associated with the film Gladiator.
The estate is conceived as a vineyard-garden whose viticulture is intended to respect and enhance this landscape. Its planted identity is built around Sangiovese and an unusually broad collection of 140 clones.
Vinificazione
Oria Toscana is conceived as a sustainable vineyard-garden combining viticultural tradition with innovation. The stated objective is to create a model of sustainable viticulture that respects and enhances the Val d’Orcia landscape.
The project covers 15 hectares of vineyard and brings together 140 Sangiovese clones. Its vineyard structure includes both a historic vineyard and a new clonal vineyard. Grafting onto American rootstock was selected as a subject for a practical demonstration at Oria Day 2026.
The technical masterclass planned for Oria Day focused on assessing grape ripeness before harvest through the examination of skins, pulp and seeds; grape colour and structure; tannins and aromas; stem ripeness; and the resistance of the berry when detached from its pedicel. These elements were presented as tools for judging the appropriate harvest date.
The first harvest from the developing vineyard-garden is planned for 2028. Monastero 2024 was selected for presentation and tasting during Oria Day 2026, but cellar design, processing equipment, fermentation protocols, maturation vessels and bottling practices are not described.
Filosofia
Oria Toscana presents itself as a “vineyard-garden of the future,” placing the vineyard within a wider landscape rather than treating it solely as a production unit. Its declared vision is to reconcile tradition with innovation and to develop sustainable viticulture that both respects and enhances the Val d’Orcia.
Clonal diversity is central to that vision: the project brings together 140 Sangiovese clones across 15 hectares. The emphasis is on exclusivity and very high quality, with the vineyard, hospitality, membership and estate experiences conceived as parts of a single project.
