Storia
Ottomani was founded more than 15 years ago. Its story began with four friends who grew up together and shared a passion for wine; the name "Ottomani", meaning "four hands", comes from this. After gaining experience at historic Chianti estates, they decided to produce their own wine and olive oil.
The estate has grown by restoring old vineyards and preserving local grape varieties. Today it has around 15 hectares of land between the municipalities of Greve in Chianti and Impruneta.
Terroir
The estate lies between the municipalities of Greve in Chianti and Impruneta. The soils are mainly limestone, with clay and marl. They are poor soils, described as well suited to producing high-quality wines.
Vinificazione
The estate follows organic and biodynamic methods. No synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used on the vines or soil. All vineyard work uses environmentally sustainable farming practices. Close attention is paid to vineyard management and to grape selection in the vineyard.
Organic and biodynamic methods are applied in the winery as well as the vineyard. Reds are made from Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegiolo and Malvasia Nera; whites from Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca. The estate aims to make wines that are as natural as possible and low in sulfites. Olive oil is also produced.
Filosofia
The team states that its main aim is to bring out the best in the local area, its traditional grape varieties and its winemaking methods. Ottomani says it is committed to offering wines that are as natural as possible and low in sulfites.
