Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie near the winery, where Lagrein grows on gravel containing limestone and porphyry, together with sand and clay. Yield is 70 hl/ha.
Grapes
Lagrein. Alto Adige DOC.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed immediately and fermented for about seven days at a constant 28 °C. Regular circulation pumping and gentle pressure from below maintain contact between the must and skins, supporting colour extraction and the wine’s fruit expression. Two gentle rackings follow.
Ageing
Seventy percent of the wine matures for several months in large oak barrels. The remaining 30% ages in 2–3-year-old French oak barriques. After blending and bottling, the wine rests for several additional months before release.
Tasting profile
Ruby red to dark garnet in colour. The intense, complex and spicy aroma combines wild berries with violets. The palate is harmonious, with firm tannic grip and a soft, velvety, rounded body, followed by a lightly spicy finish. Its overall style is fruit-forward, elegant and harmonious.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18 °C with red meats, roasts, game or hard cheeses. Cellaring potential is 5–6 years.
