Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from selected vineyards in the southern part of the Punggl site in Magrè. The vines are grafted onto low-growing rootstock and trained on wire frames using the Guyot system. They grow in alluvial fine sand with deposits of silt and clay on Alto Adige’s warm valley floor. From April through October, the vineyards experience regular thermal airflow: the warm Ora arrives from the south in the afternoon, while a cool northerly breeze moves through during the morning.
Grapes
Merlot. Alto Adige DOC.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed immediately upon arrival. A one-day cool maceration encourages fruit expression before fermentation proceeds for approximately ten days at 28–30 °C. Pumping over and gentle pressure from below maintain regular contact between must and skins, aiding color extraction and emphasizing fruit. The wine is racked twice.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in French oak barriques and then for six months in concrete tanks, followed by another six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Ruby red. The bouquet combines ripe wild berries and plum with fine dark-chocolate notes. Dense and complex on the palate, it shows pronounced varietal character, powerful structure, soft fruit and a long, persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16 °C. Pair with veal, game, beef, lamb, chicken, medium-spicy mature cheeses or vegetarian dishes. Cellaring potential is 6–8 years.
