Storia
Late 1960s
Giuseppe Lanza bought the Pruneto estate in the late nineteen-sixties, when the hills and wines of Chianti were still little known around the world.
Mid-1970s
His son Riccardo graduated in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Milan, returned home and set to work. He found that a university education in agriculture was not enough to understand all the secrets of grape growing and winemaking, so he followed the methods of old local farmers and learned from knowledge built up over centuries in the area.
1981 onwards
Pruneto's first Chianti Classico vintage was bottled in 1981. Since then the winery has worked without paying much attention to the latest trends and fashions.
Terroir
The vineyards, 3.5 hectares in total, all lie around 500 metres above sea level in the Chianti hills.
Vinificazione
The vineyards are farmed organically. Riccardo Lanza follows the methods of old local farmers, drawing on knowledge built up over centuries in the area.
The first Chianti Classico vintage was bottled in 1981. Winemaking follows the methods of old local farmers rather than current trends and fashions.
Filosofia
The Lanza family says it remains committed to working with the greatest respect for nature and the terroir, and to putting a part of its own story into every wine. The winery works with care and enthusiasm, without paying too much attention to the latest trends and fashions.
