Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes principally from estate-owned plots covering 10.40 ha in Località Canale, in the commune of Castellina in Chianti. The vineyards occupy a contiguous property at approximately 300 m a.s.l.; the principal exposure is south-facing, although the individual plots have various aspects. The deep, fertile, medium-textured soils contain abundant clay and Galestro stone. Vine ages range from new plantings to 35 years, with a density of 5,000 vines per hectare and an average yield of 1.2 kg per plant. Both spur and cane pruning are used.

Grapes

Predominantly Sangiovese, accompanied by Ciliegiolo and other red varieties.

Vinification

Harvest runs from the second half of September through the first half of October. Maceration lasts approximately 10–12 days at about 28°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel.

Ageing

The wine matures for at least one year in traditional Chianti barrels, followed by another three months in stainless steel and six months in bottle.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 150,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Red with violet reflections. The wine combines complexity and structure with an intense, vinous and fruit-driven bouquet. Cherry fruit is prominent on the palate, while freshness balances lively tannins that are well integrated with the wine’s extract and structure.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16°C with white or red meat and medium-aged cheeses.
