Vineyard and terroir

The grapes originate in Monforte d’Alba (CN). The vines are Guyot-trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare, with a reported yield of 45–50 q/ha.

Grapes

100% Barbera.

Vinification

Fermentation proceeds at controlled temperature for approximately 10–12 days in contact with the skins.

Ageing

Maturation begins with approximately 24 months in small oak barrels and continues in cement. The wine then receives at least 12 months of bottle ageing before release.

Technical data

The wine is vintage-dated and is bottled in 0.75 L format. Its expected ageing potential is 15–20 years. The production history began with the 1988 vintage. Technical figures are multi-vintage averages and may vary with the individual vintage.

Tasting profile

The colour is vivid, moving from ruby red toward carmine, with noticeable transparency in the glass. The deep, expressive bouquet is led by ripe cherry and full, juicy red fruit without jamminess. Nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and a subtle touch of pepper add well-integrated spice, while restrained oak nuances accompany the fruit. Dried thyme and marjoram contribute a balsamic, herbal background.

The palate combines fruit with rhubarb, gentian and liquorice. Silky, enveloping tannins leave a lightly powdery sensation on the gums and a gentle drying effect without aggression. The texture is round, soft and velvety yet notably mouthwatering, with fruit, acidity, structure and tannin held in balance.
