Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from Vigna Madonna Assunta La Villa in Castelletto, Monforte d’Alba (CN). The vineyard is managed sustainably with the aim of reducing fungicide use. The vines are Guyot trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare, with an average yield of 45–50 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo. The first vintage produced was 1999.

Vinification

Primary fermentation takes place in contact with the skins, allowing anthocyanin extraction.

Ageing

The wine matures for approximately 30 months in wood, followed by a further 60–72 months of bottle ageing before release.

Technical data

It is a vintage-dated Barolo Riserva D.O.C.G. Available formats are 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L. The technical information represents averages across several years and may vary with the vintage.

Tasting profile

The colour is dense and vivid, with a garnet tone tending toward orange. The bouquet is fleshy and enveloping, led by mature cherry and plum. Woodland and earthy nuances follow, including dried mushroom and a restrained umami character. Petrichor brings a moist, fresh and mineral dimension. Cigar box and fine tobacco emerge toward the finish, accompanied by traces of an extinguished pipe, dried aromatic herbs and a subtle balsamic accent.

The palate is full-bodied, rich and enveloping, with imposing structure. Vibrant acidity sustains its freshness within an exceptionally smooth, velvety texture. The wine is persistent, balanced and harmonious, finishing at length with chocolate and cocoa. Fully evolved tannins are gentle and caressing, without bitterness or astringency, while ample salivation contributes to its freshness and balance.

Serving and pairing

The wine has an expected cellaring life of more than 30 years.

Label / history

The estate’s first vintage of this wine was 1999. Its extended maturation—about 30 months in wood followed by five to six years in bottle—underpins its release as a ten-year Riserva.
