Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from vineyards belonging to Podere Rocche dei Manzoni in the Langhe. The estate’s product page locates these vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, in the province of Cuneo. Sustainable farming is practiced with the aim of reducing fungicide use. The vines are Guyot-trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare, with yields of 50–60 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

A red-grape blend. The precise varieties and their proportions are not specified.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature in contact with the skins.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24–30 months in small oak barrels and subsequently in cement. It receives approximately another 12 months of bottle ageing before release.

Technical data

Langhe Rosso D.O.C. A vintage-dated wine, available in 0.75, 1.5, 3, 5 and 12 L formats. Its anticipated cellaring life is 20–30 years. The published technical information represents averages across several years and may vary with the vintage.

Tasting profile

Bright and transparent in the glass, with a carmine-red colour shading toward garnet. The nose is expressive yet finely drawn, opening with ripe red fruit led by cherry and complemented by darker plum nuances. Menthol and camphor give the bouquet a clearly balsamic character. Oak remains discreet, supporting the fruit and balsamic freshness without dominating them. Cinnamon and nutmeg add precise spicy accents, while violet and dried flowers complete the aromatic profile.

The palate closely echoes the nose. The tannins are authoritative but controlled, guiding the wine without becoming intrusive, and there are no bitter notes. Violet-candy flavours bring an intense floral quality that can momentarily eclipse the fruit. Gentian and rhubarb provide balsamic depth and freshness. The finish is exceptionally persistent, long and clearly defined.

Label / history
