Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from various vineyards belonging to Podere Rocche dei Manzoni, all situated in Monforte d’Alba (CN), within the Langhe. The vineyards are managed through sustainable agriculture aimed at reducing fungicide use. The vines are Guyot trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare, with yields of 50–60 quintals per hectare (5–6 t/ha).

Grapes

100% Chardonnay. L’Angelica is a vintage-dated Langhe Chardonnay D.O.C., first produced in 1989.

Vinification

The grapes are gently pressed off the skins. The resulting must is transferred to small oak barrels, where alcoholic fermentation is completed under controlled temperature.

Ageing

The wine matures for approximately 18 months in small oak barrels, followed by approximately 12 months in cement.

Technical data

Available in 0.75 L and 1.5 L bottles. Its expected cellaring life is at least 15 years. The published specifications represent averages across several years and may vary with the vintage.

Tasting profile

Bright, transparent and crystal-clear in appearance, almost brilliant. The nose is clean, refined and delicate. Citron peel leads the fruit profile, bringing citrus freshness, followed by banana. Elderflower and star anise add floral and aromatic complexity. Oak remains discreet and well integrated, with light white-pepper and toasted nuances completing the bouquet.

The palate closely reflects the aromas. It is soft, velvety, rounded and enveloping, while well-integrated alcohol supports the structure without dominating it. Freshness and sapidity provide energy and depth. A powdery texture and subtle chalkiness emerge on the finish. The wine is intense, full-bodied, structured and opulent, with balanced soft and firm components and a long, deep, persistent finish.
