Vineyard and terroir

The vineyard lies on the eastern side of Montalcino at 260–280 metres above sea level, with a northern exposure. Its reddish soils derive from Ruscinian and Villafranchian continental and lacustrine deposits and combine clay with conglomerate and gravel. Planting density is 4,500 vines per hectare, with a yield of 6,000 kg of grapes per hectare.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of October. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Vinification begins with two days of cold maceration at 10°C, followed by 10–12 days at 25–28°C during and after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation takes place in cement vats.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24–28 months in 20–30 hL oak casks and then for 10 months in bottle.

Technical data

The technical sheet gives an alcohol content of 14.5% vol. and a production of 8,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with a slight tendency toward garnet. The bouquet is intense, complex and spicy, led by Amarena cherry. The aromatic character continues onto a full, harmonious and persistent palate framed by dense, silky tannins.

Vintage notes

The current wine presentation is the 2021 vintage. The technical specifications are carried in a document whose file name refers to 2021, although its internal vintage heading reads 2020.
