Vineyard and terroir
The vineyard is situated on the eastern side of Montalcino at 260–310 metres above sea level, facing north and northeast. Its intense-brown clay soils belong to the Pietraforte Formation and contain compacted sandstone banks ranging from a few centimetres to one metre in thickness. Planting density is 4,500 vines per hectare and yield is 8,000 kg of grapes per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand at the end of September. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Two days of cold maceration at 10°C are followed by 5–6 days at 25–28°C during fermentation. Malolactic fermentation takes place in cement vats.
Ageing
The wine matures for 10–12 months in 20–30 hL oak casks.
Technical data
Alcohol is 13% vol.; production is 24,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Ruby red. The bouquet is clean and intense, recalling red and black fruits with fresh balsamic accents. The palate is full, balanced and well structured, with silky tannins and a fresh, persistent finish that returns to the opening aromatic notes.
