Storia
Vitis in Vulture was founded in northern Basilicata, in the municipality of Lavello.
2007: the cooperative
The Vitis in Vulture cooperative was established in 2007 by a group of friends who shared a love of winemaking. It has 40 members, including winemakers and growers. The group first focused on growing grapes, then built a winery and began producing wine.
Today
The cooperative manages 250 ha of vineyards across the municipalities of Lavello, Melfi, Venosa, Ripacandida, Barile and Maschito, and ranks second in Basilicata by production volume. Its current goal is to link production, processing and marketing more closely through vertical integration across the supply chain.
Terroir
The vineyards lie at the foot of the extinct Mount Vulture volcano, among hills rich in local flora and fauna, in northern Basilicata. The climate is Mediterranean, with balanced temperature changes. The soils are limestone and clay, rich in potassium, and suit both vines and olive trees.
Vinificazione
The cooperative began by growing grapes and later built a winery and started producing wine. Dr Giovanni Riviezzo oversees the whole production process, from the vineyards to the finished wine. Dr Umberto Trombelli advises the winery.
Filosofia
The cooperative's current goal is to create closer links between production, processing and marketing through vertical integration across the supply chain.
