Storia
The Walch family founded the winery in the old village of Tramin, South Tyrol, in 1869. The founder, Wilhelm, had previously been a successful restaurant manager in Vorarlberg, Austria. Looking to expand his business, he moved with his family to nearby South Tyrol, bought a former Jesuit monastery in Tramin and established his own winery there.
Wilhelm later acquired vineyards in some of South Tyrol's best locations and in a short time built the business into one of the region's largest wine estates. The family became an unofficial trendsetter in the region's wine industry.
Over 150 years the estate has expanded considerably and its production facilities have been modernized. The winery is still owned by the Walch family, now in its fifth generation.
