About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Botrosecco comes from Fattoria Le Mortelle near Castiglione della Pescaia in the Tuscan Maremma. The site’s soils are predominantly clay and limestone with abundant small stones. Across the estate, medium-textured sandy and silty soils have a mainly silica-and-clay composition and can be notably stony.
The Antinori family began substantial work on the vineyards and new cellar in 1999. An 1863 property document had already recorded Poggio Franco and other local parcels among the family holdings.
Grapes
Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Blend proportions vary by vintage.
Vinification
For the 2024 vintage, selected grapes were destemmed, gently crushed and transferred to stainless-steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation took place at approximately 25 °C to preserve varietal aroma and fruit definition. Maceration lasted about 15 days, with controlled wetting of the cap intended to extract the finer tannins.
The wine was then transferred to stainless steel for malolactic fermentation, which finished by the end of the year.
Ageing
Approximately 10 months in barriques preceded bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
The 2024 is ruby red. Blackcurrant and blackberry lead the nose, joined by eucalyptus, Mediterranean scrub, black pepper and a refined fresh-tobacco note. The palate is balanced and enveloping, with fine, well-integrated tannins. Fresh-fruit and light spice notes shape the persistent, harmonious finish.
Vintage notes
The 2024 season remained cool and rainy through June before turning dry and generally warm in summer. Budbreak was regular, while low temperatures and rain in May and June delayed flowering and fruit set. September rain and pronounced day-to-night temperature changes helped retain aromatic definition and supported full tannin ripeness. Cabernet Franc harvest began in the second week of September, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon.
