About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown on the hills of Sant'Amico, in the small area surrounding the castle of Morro d'Alba, a few kilometres from Matelica. The vineyards lie at 150–210 metres above sea level, and the vines average 15 years of age.
Vinification
The wine is produced for Belisario by its partner in Morro d'Alba according to Belisario's protocol. The grapes are harvested by hand on 11–12 September. Twenty per cent of the crop undergoes carbonic maceration; the remaining 80% is gently pressed and macerated traditionally for 10 days. Fermentation lasts 20 days in 75 hl stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 22–26 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for six months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by a further period of settling in bottle.
