About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow on gentle slopes leading down to Lake Garda, in soils of natural clay and limestone. The mild, breezy climate of the lake shapes the wine. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare.
Grapes
The text names the grape as Trebbiano di Lugano, which in its native terroir is especially aromatic and fresh.
Vinification
Harvest begins in mid-September. After gentle pressing, the wine ferments in steel tanks at 14–16 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees in steel containers for at least three months, with periodic stirring.
Tasting profile
Fragrant and fresh, with the strongest structure and most distinctive character among the white wines of Lake Garda.
Label / history
Le Quaiare belongs to the Vini del Lago di Garda range ("Wines of Lake Garda"), which offers fresh, young, fruit-forward wines from the south and southeast of the region around Bardolino, Lugana and Custoza.
Bertani was founded in the mid-19th century in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona, by the brothers Giovanni Battista and Gaetano Bertani, who began their work in wine after meeting Monsieur Guyot. They introduced new methods of cultivation and winemaking, and were the first to sell their wine in bottles rather than oak barrels. In 1888 the Academy of Agriculture, Arts and Commerce in Verona, having studied their work, presented them with a special gold award. The estate now covers 130 hectares around an 18th-century family villa, with its cellars and winery in Grezzana. The Bertani range includes Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto.
