About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from 2.30 hectares comprising estate vineyards in Barolo and vineyards managed by third parties in La Morra. Combining grapes from different vineyards follows the traditional Barolo approach, intended to give the bottled wine clearer definition and greater consistency.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo, with a stated yield of 70 q/ha.

Vinification

Fermentation with submerged-cap maceration lasts 10–12 days at 28°C.

Ageing

The wine matures first in oak tonneaux and then in large barrels for at least 24 months. Bottle maturation follows until a minimum total period of 36 months has elapsed from 1 November of the harvest year; the wine page specifies at least nine months in bottle.

Technical data

Barolo DOCG. First produced in 2003. Formats range from 0.375 to 12 litres.

Tasting profile

Intense garnet red. The broad bouquet includes dried rose, plum, woodland notes, tobacco, liquorice, cocoa and spices. Warm and complex on the palate, yet harmonious and mellow, with soft, elegant tannins, a full flavour and a long finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C with main courses, red meat, braised dishes, game or mature cheeses.

Label / history

Cascina Ferrero follows the classic Barolo practice of blending Nebbiolo from more than one vineyard, rather than presenting fruit from a single parcel.
