About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Garassino is a Barbaresco additional geographical mention on the north-western side of Treiso. Its vineyards cover both the east- and west-facing sides of a hill ridge. The relatively recent soils date to the Tortonian age and consist of Sant’Agata Fossili marl. The vineyard area is 3.50 ha, with a reported yield of 70 q/ha.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place at 28°C with submerged-cap maceration lasting 10–12 days.

Ageing

The wine matures first in oak tonneaux and then in large barrels for at least 12 months. After bottling, maturation continues until the wine has completed at least 24 months from 1 November of the harvest year. The wine page further specifies a minimum of six months in bottle.

Technical data

Barbaresco DOCG Garassino. Produced since 1987. Available in 0.375, 0.75, 1.5, 3, 6, 9 and 12 L formats.

Tasting profile

Deep garnet red. The bouquet combines violet, dried rose and woodland-floor aromas with vanilla and spice. The palate is complex yet fresh, harmonious and mellow, with a refined classical character.
