About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown in Salento, Puglia, in dry limestone and clay soils containing some silica. Average yields are 440 kg/ha. The area receives abundant sunshine, while the nearby Mediterranean Sea provides constant cooling breezes.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked at dawn in successive stages to account for their different ripening times. Negroamaro is harvested from early September, followed by Malvasia Nera during the next two weeks. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature. The wine then undergoes 12 days of maceration with daily pumping over, followed by malolactic fermentation and blending.
Ageing
Approximately half of the blend rests in French oak barrels and half in stainless-steel tanks, a combination intended to add depth while retaining the fruit’s natural flavours and aromas.
Label / history
The name Liante means “Wind of the Levant.”
