About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Pianrosso is a single vineyard covering 11.69 hectares at 240–360 metres above sea level. Its medium-textured soils contain galestro marl of Eocene origin. The wine is produced only in the best vintages from a careful selection of Pianrosso fruit; grapes for the estate's Brunello Riserva are also selected from this vineyard.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Fermentation and refinement take place in stainless-steel containers and glass-lined concrete vats. Temperature is controlled through cooling jackets and immersion plates.
Ageing
The wine spends an extended period in oak barrels, followed by further refinement in bottle.
Tasting profile
Ruby red tending towards garnet. The bouquet is intense and complex, combining ripe red berries with a range of spices. The palate is warm, soft and harmonious, balancing pronounced tannins with acidity and savoury character. It is an elegant wine with the structure to continue developing in the cellar.
Serving and pairing
Open one hour before serving and pour at 18°C in a large crystal glass. Pair with stewed or roasted meats and game such as hare, pheasant and wild boar, or with mature cheeses. Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place protected from temperature extremes and fluctuations.
Label / history
Pianrosso has long served as the estate's representative single-vineyard wine. An anti-counterfeiting hologram protects the capsule.
