History

Establishment

Col Solare originated nearly 30 years ago as a collaboration between Marchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle. The project brought together the partners’ respective viticultural and enological cultures, with Cabernet Sauvignon and the identity of the Red Mountain AVA at its center.

1995: first vintage

The first Col Solare vintage was produced in 1995. From that inaugural vintage onward, the estate’s mission was to combine the two partners’ approaches in Cabernet Sauvignon intended to express Red Mountain in Washington State.

2024: full Antinori ownership

In 2024, the Antinori family acquired full ownership of Col Solare. The acquisition reflected the family’s conviction in the potential of the estate’s Red Mountain terroir.

Nearly 30 years agoMarchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle established Col Solare as a joint project uniting their viticultural and enological cultures.

1995Col Solare produced its first vintage, beginning its Cabernet Sauvignon-focused expression of the Red Mountain AVA.

2024The Antinori family acquired full ownership of the estate.

Philosophy

Col Solare was conceived to unite the viticultural and enological cultures of Marchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle. Since the first vintage in 1995, its stated objective has been to produce Cabernet Sauvignon that conveys the identity of the Red Mountain AVA. The Antinori family’s acquisition of full ownership in 2024 reaffirmed its confidence in the potential of this terroir.
