History
A Friulian collaborative project
Col Talmasso forms part of Grape Growers Projects, a portfolio created to represent Italian wine territories in which the fifth generation of the Piccini family chose to invest through close cooperation with local partners. Collaborators were selected after regional assessment and monitoring, establishing working relationships with local winegrowers.
Within this framework, Col Talmasso emerged in Friuli as an expression of local craftsmanship transmitted through generations. The project combines the experience of Friulian growers with agronomic and oenological guidance from the Piccini team.
Its range was developed around representative varieties and interpretations of Friuli, encompassing Chardonnay, Friulano, Pinot Nero, Ribolla Gialla and Sauvignon under the Friuli DOC and Venezia Giulia IGT appellations.
Terroir
Col Talmasso is rooted in the hills of Friuli. Its vineyards occupy a landscape framed by the Alpine arc and the sea, a setting associated particularly with the production of white wines.
The area has a mild climate. Its soils are described through their distinctive composition, although their constituent geology is not specified. Together, these conditions support Friulian expressions of Chardonnay, Friulano, Pinot Nero, Ribolla Gialla and Sauvignon.
Viticulture has occupied an important place in this territory since antiquity. Col Talmasso places that regional heritage at the centre of its identity, with particular emphasis on varieties regarded as representative of Friuli.
Winemaking
Col Talmasso works through cooperation with local Friulian winegrowers. The wider Grape Growers model begins with assessment and monitoring of potential partners, followed by ongoing collaboration between those growers and the Piccini oenology team.
The team provides agronomic guidance across the project. Viticultural choices are directed toward expressing the terroir, preserving local wine culture and selecting grape varieties considered representative of Friuli. No specific soil-management, canopy-management, crop-protection, irrigation, harvesting or certification protocols are defined.
Production is organized collaboratively. Local partners contribute their knowledge and multigenerational craftsmanship, while the Piccini oenology team works with the participating producers and sets oenological guidelines intended to maintain quality and interpret the territory.
The production philosophy centres on recognizable Friulian varieties and appellations. No estate-wide details are defined for grape reception, sorting, pressing, fermentation, maceration, maturation, stabilization, filtration or bottling.
Philosophy
Col Talmasso is presented as a territorial collaboration rather than an isolated estate model. Its stated priorities are the expression of terroir and the protection of local wine culture.
The project seeks to unite the inherited craftsmanship of Friulian growers with coordinated agronomic and oenological direction. Its approach to identity begins with varieties considered emblematic of the territory, aiming to communicate Friuli through recognizable regional grapes and appellations.
Quality is pursued through partner selection, monitoring and cooperation between local growers and the Piccini technical team. The intended result is a range grounded in local experience while benefiting from shared production guidance.
